Gabriel Süe

Gabriel Süe (1867 in Marseille – 1958 in Servanches)

Nephew of the writer Eugène Süe, trained in Bordeaux and then Paris, initially strongly inspired by Impressionism, he is noticed as a post-impressionist and fauvist animal painter. The solitary life in the wilderness and the pack of hunting dogs on his property at Servanches in the Double were vital to him and made his style atypical among animal painters of the time. Gabriel Süe, for a long time mayor of Servanches, welcomed André Voulgre on several occasions for hunting in the Double.
