Maurice Albe

Maurice Albe (1900 in Beaugency – 1995 in Périgueux)

He grew up in Sarlat where his father is the director of the gas plant. Trained in Paris in the heart of the Roaring Twenties with Picasso, Braque, Gris and André Lhote, he settled permanently in Périgord in 1945. The work of this painter, illustrator, sculptor, ceramist and engraver remains inextricably linked to Périgord and to the work of the writers Eugène Le Roy and Georges Rocal, whose editions he illustrates. His engravings and drawings are based on a « sensitive cubist » line that breathes harshness, life and simplicity into the subject of « terroir ».
