Water in the kitchen

From its supply to its storage and use, water is a central element in the kitchen. Drawn from the river, pond, well, pump or spring, the water was brought to the house and then stored in various containers. Running water was installed first & foremost in towns in the 1930s.

Water was used to quench one’s thirst, to wash vegetables, dishes, utensils and the house before being drained through the sink or collected for the pig’s soup.
